Dust (2013)
Dust is a short film produced by CBL starring Alan Rickman, Jodie Whittaker & Lola Albert. Written and directed by Ben Ockrent & Jake Russell.
Betty Davis – They Say I’m Different (2017)
With her suggestive lyrics (“If I’m in Luck I Might Get Picked Up”) and audacious outfits, the funk singer Betty Davis is far ahead of her time. Too far, perhaps. “If Betty were singing today she’d be something like Madonna; something like Prince,” wrote jazz trumpeter Miles Davis in his 1989 autobiography. Davis married Betty in 1968, and she kept his surname after their divorce the following year. Betty – They Say I’m Different, named after her second studio album, which was released in 1974, focuses on the reasons why this “bold soul sister” left the music industry in the late 1970s. There are interviews with family members, friends and former band members. The voice-over, tinted with resignation as it describes her life and its directions, is inspired by interviews with Betty Davis and her song lyrics. Davis has various alter egos: besides Nasty Girl (the title of her third album), there’s also the more spiritual Crow. The unfolding dramatic narrative of the mystery of Betty’s disappearance at the height of her fame is slowly revealed.
Spider (2002)
CBL’s first feature film, Spider (best film Toronto Film Festival), directed by David Cronenberg (Director’s Guild, Best Director), premiered in Competition in Cannes, May 2002 and opened in London in January 2003 to rave reviews. Spider was a UK/Canada Co-production and has world-wide distribution. It stars Ralph Fiennes, Miranda Richardson (London Critics Circle for Best Actor/Actress), Gabriel Byrne and Lynn Redgrave, with music by Howard Shore
We Are The Indians (2004)
In 2004 CBL assumed the role of Executive Producer for a feature length documentary film “We Are The Indians” directed by Phil Cox. It was broadcast by More 4 in Spring 2006 and has won three international awards: 2005 Best Documentary at Buenos Aires International Film Festival, 2005 Best Documentary at Manaus International Film Festival and 2006 Best Director Mexican Independent Doc Film Awards.
